GLP-1s are an effective weight loss intervention for individuals with obesity and overweight. Low energy intake may however result in nutritional deficiencies and loss of lean body mass. Use of GLP-1s, and rapid weight loss, could also increase risk of adverse effects. Additionally, weight regain is common. Comprehensive, nutritional and lifestyle strategies to support safe and sustainable results are currently missing from the existing model of care. The aim of this narrative review is to summarise current evidence to guide evidence-based clinical practice on the role nutrition and lifestyle support could play in effective weight management outcomes, and long-term success during, and after, GLP-1 treatment.
