OBJECTIVE
To compare the clinical efficacy of unibody bifurcated endovascular stent-graft repair versus conventional open surgery for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).
STUDY DESIGN
Interventional study.
PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY
Department of Vascular Surgery, Gansu Province People's Hospital, China, from January 2015 to December 2016.
METHODOLOGY
A total of 80 patients with AAA were randomly divided into Group A and Group B, with 40 cases in each group. Group A was treated with conventional open surgical repair, and Group B was treated with unibody bifurcated endovascular stent-graft repair. The efficacy of the two groups was compared.
RESULTS
The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative ambulation time, and postoperative hospital stay in Group B were all lower than those in Group A (all p <0.001). The incidence of pulmonary complications and electrolyte imbalance in Group B were lower than those in Group A (p=0.026 and p <0.001, respectively). The survival rate of patients in Group B at 6 months, 12 months and 24 months after operation was higher than that of Group A (p=0.002, 0.002 and 0.005, respectively).
CONCLUSION
Unibody bifurcated endovascular stent-graft repair for abdominal aortic aneurysm has advantages of short operation time, little trauma, short recovery time, high safety and efficacy compared with the conventional open surgery.
